FAQs
Sovereign Minds is an education and leadership initiative that equips young people (aged 16 and above) with the character, communication skills, and moral courage needed to lead meaningful lives and effect positive change in society.
This mission is delivered through two core streams:
- The Personal and Professional Masterclass, which develops personal growth and self-mastery, and;
- The SPEAR Oratory Prize Competition, which cultivates confident public speaking and persuasive communication
Sovereign Minds is part of a UK-registered charity dedicated to empowering young people to become future change-makers rather than passive observers. As a charity, its work is rooted in public benefit, aiming to create opportunities for young people to develop their potential and make a meaningful contribution to society.
Sovereign Minds was founded by Dr. Baba Anhad Raj Singh Ji, whose vision is to create an ecosystem that blends intellectual excellence with moral responsibility and service to humanity.

The SPEAR Oratory Prize Competition is a flagship event where 16-18 year olds from across the United Kingdom come together to speak out on global issues. It is less about showmanship and more about depth of thought, moral courage and ability to find solutions to the difficult challenges that young people face today. Click here to find out more!
We focus on oracy because it’s about more than just speaking well. It’s about thinking clearly, listening carefully, and communicating responsibly. Oracy gives young people the tools to express themselves with clarity and empathy, even when tackling tricky or divisive topics.
Furthermore, it gives us valuable insight into their perspectives, allowing us to hear how young minds see and understand the world from their own point of view.
The journey to becoming a SPEAR finalist is as much about growth as it is about competition. Participants go through a structured process where they receive mentoring and guidance, giving them space to refine and express their ideas more confidently.
Finalists are judged by educators and professionals and are selected based on the originality of their thinking, the strength of their convictions, and their ability to communicate with clarity and purpose. The idea is for entrants to provide insight and actionable solutions rather than just performance.
The SPEAR Oratory Prize Competition focuses on students aged 16-18. But the Sovereign Minds Masterclass is suitable for those aged 16 and above.
Participants are equipped with skills that last a lifetime. They embody increased confidence, clearer values, improved communication, leadership capability, employability skills, and most importantly, a stronger sense of purpose and civic responsibility.
Impact is measured through participant progression, academic and career outcomes, mentor feedback, longitudinal tracking, and - critically - the social contribution participants go on to make.
While rooted in the UK, Sovereign Minds has a global outlook and ambitions to expand internationally through partnerships, digital masterclasses, and regional hubs.
